INNOVATIVE-READINESS
TRAINING (IRT)
Shawnee Development Council, Inc. (SDC) partnered with Department of Defense again this year to offer Operation Healthy Delta Innovative Readiness Training. This event was held at the Anna-Jonesboro High School during the month of June. No cost health and medical services were offered to participants which included basic medical wellness and school physicals, dental exams and extractions, vision screenings and prescription glasses, as well as, emotional stability and exercise performance and motion management. 5,202 procedures were performed for a Fair Market Value total of $508,703.58. Shawnee Development Council, Inc. has been partnering with Delta Area Economic Opportunity Corporation (DAEOC) of Sikeston, Mo since 2018 on bringing these types of services to Southern Illinois.

FOOD PANTRY & GARDEN
State leaders are working to battle food insecurity - particularly in southern Illinois. The Union County Gardens in Anna, an extension of Shawnee Development Council, had a visit from the state comptroller to see how they are helping residents. State Comptroller Susana Mendoza was invited to tour the Union County Garden. The garden was started seven years ago with two raised garden beds. Since then, they’ve grown to twenty-four beds and produce around two-thousand pounds of produce for the food pantry next door. The garden helps provide fresh food for up to 75 people a week at the food pantry.

PARTNER WITH POSHARD
The Poshard Foundation generously donated $2500 to our food pantry! With this extra money, we were able to compile special kid friendly bags for the children in our local areas. Enough to fill the entire SUV to the brim! The grant highlights the foundation's commitment to ensuring every child has access to a safe person, a safe place, and a safe community.

Please take only what you need, and remember to leave items for others too. Together, we can create a stronger, more caring community.
Your contributions make a difference! If you'd like to donate non-perishable food items, simply drop them off at our office during operating hours. Every donation is appreciated and goes directly to those in need.

OCTOBER 2024
TOY DISTRIBUTION
Shawnee Development partnered with Toys for Tots and Tackle Hunger to bring joy and support to families in our community. Covering a rural seven-county area, we took to the roads with mobile units to host community events. We organized 15 separate pop-up events at local food pantries, parks, stores, and churches, reaching nearly 4,000 kids.
We are honored to have had the opportunity to partner up and make this event successful. Hearing from many families about the positive impact on their lives reinforces our commitment to continue supporting our community. Thank you to all our partners and volunteers who made this possible!
